 FAQ

QUESTION:

I love the idea of photos at home, but i also want pretty photos outside somewhere. Is that even possible?

ANSWER:

YES! Most of my sessions include some sort of venue change. We can always find a way to incorporate an outdoor location in an authentic way. I am full of ideas - just ask!

QUESTION:

My child notoriously melts down when having photos taken, and we've had really bad experiences in the past. How is your approach different?

ANSWER:

Here is my most valued insight into child (especially toddler) psychology: the more you want something from them, the harder they will rebel against it. If you think about it, so much of their daily lives is out of their control. When things are different, they cling to the power that they DO have in this big, unpredictable world. I offer them control by meeting them right where they’re at, not by forcing them into my vision. Rather than trying to capture them doing something they don’t want to do (sit still, hold poses, etc), I take a collaborative approach so that when I DO need them to sit and smile for a photo, I’ve earned their trust and respect. The benefit is twofold - you not only have a much more pleasant, connected photo experience but the pictures capture who they REALLY are, not what some pose expects them to be.

QUESTION:

I know you say that a pretty, perfect house doesn't matter but i really, really don't want photos at home.

ANSWER:

Not a problem at all; while much of our lives are spent at home, not all memories take place here. There are so many opportunities for memorable, special photos at an outside location! Some of my favorite sessions have including tagging along on Sunday beach days, nature walks, picnics or a trip to the pumpkin farm. The only “must” at an outside location is including an event that is natural for your family to encourage your child’s cooperation. Plus - I want your photos to remind you of all the times you went apple picking and not just that one time I was there, you know?
